AUDITION ANNOUNCEMENT (and YES it's poly related, folks) :)

Audition Announcement

Live audio-theatre (a la old time radio) production of an original adaptation of

Robert Heinlein's
Stranger in a Strange Land

AUDITIONS: SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 15, 2009 2-5 pm.

The auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.

Looking for 6 men and 4 women - some for single roles, but most to take on multiple roles. Vocal flexibility and characterization and smooth reading are key - lines are READ, not memorized.  It is a full length show - 2 hours including intermission.

The initial plan is that this will be performed at the Chicago Polyamory Conference www.chipolycon.org on Saturday, March 28, 2009

I must be up front with everyone.  There is a chance that the convention will be canceled  (HINT HINT - SIGN UP NOW IF YOU DON'T WANT THE CONFERENCE CANCELED!)  The decision will be made at the end of February.   Should the conference be canceled, however, I plan to talk with the folks with the Heinlein Trust (who granted permission for the performance) asking for permission for a change of venue so we could still produce the play.

I promise not to have more than 3 rehearsals (probably 2) before the fate of the show is determined.  Unfortunately, unless I have auditions and start rehearsals soon, we will not have long enough time to put the show together.

Please blip me off an email (kzoegraham/at/gmail/dot/com)  to let me know if you wish to audition and I will send you the address. Also let me know if you want to audition but cannot make the audition time indicated.  Let me know if you have any questions about the production.  Thanks.

AND

PLEASE, PLEASE - feel free to forward this to anyone else you think might be interested in auditioning.

Oh, yeah - this is the world wide web. Oops. This show auditions and rehearses (and performs) in the CHICAGO, IL, USA area. :)

Eep. Thanks for the heads up. I hope to get my con registration in on Friday, but I will hold off on plane tickets until the beginning of March

Ah, delicious spam.

Heh. Well, this spam actually is kind of tasty. Pity I'd have to phone in my part (literally) if I got it.

Whilst you are busy spamming the community, did you folks happen to license that adaptation of SiSL, or are just hoping the copyright holder will never notice? Because posting something to the Internet is a good way to get them to notice.

It seems fair that if you are going to slam someone's post you should at least READ it. Please note the line:

"Should the conference be canceled, however, I plan to talk with the folks with the Heinlein Trust (who granted permission for the performance) asking for permission for a change of venue so we could still produce the play."

What about the "WHO GRANTED PERMISSION FOR THE PERFORMANCE" gives the impression that I did not acquire the right to perform it.

And why on earth do you consider this spam? Just because I thought it would be nice to include polyamorists in a performance of a work that was seminal to the modern polyamory movement at a polyamory convention? This is a POLYAMORY group, is it not? Sheesh!

My bad. Perhaps if it was better written, and didn't read like spam at the start, I might have bothered to read it.

Perhaps if you're going to criticize things, you should have a minimal understanding of them at the least.

Please, admit you were wrong and move on.

Rhonan, this performance is authorized by the Heinlein estate (as stated in the OP).

liawip, I had already decided not to go to the con (too pricey for our current state of affairs), but I love voice work. I am assuming you must be registered for the con in order to perform?

I don't understand why this is spam. The ChiPolyCon is explicitly a poly event, it doesn't seem too big a presumption that people in the poly lj community might interested in attending and interested in participating in the panel. Oberon and Cunning Minx will be there. This is legit. What's the concern?

No, you do not need to be registered for the convention to participate in the production. You just won't be able to take part in other parts of the conference, that's all.

Please contact me at the email if you would like to audition.

And thanks for responding to Rhonan's post.

BTW - didactic cudgel - what a great moniker!

I'm too far away from Chicago, and despite my past voice acting experience, i get hoarse after teaching a two-hour class these days. But i did want to inquire: assuming it happens, and i hope it does, any chance recordings of this will be available afterward?

Nope - no recordings - that would be beyond the rights I was granted. Sorry. Thanks for your interest, though! :)

I couln't afford the 300+ fee to attend, even without the rooms included in the price. I wanted to go, but even scifi cons don't cost that much...sigh.
